Yes, it is actually that simple. We were playing around with the Nokia E72 when the thought struck us that with the handset handling e-mail as easily as it does text messages, would it not make more sense to send mails rather than texts to people? And this is not just limited to enterprise devices like the Nokia E72, but to just about any decent mid-segment handset, as most handsets are tailored to handle mail as seamlessly as possible.
Here are our five reasons why using push mail is a better option than sending zillions of texts every month.
1. If you grab a all-that-you-can-use (unlimited) GPRS connection on your phone, your cost of e-mailing will literally be zero. Even if you grab a limited use GPRS connection, the cost of sending an e-mail is much lesser than that of sending a text as most e-mails are mainly text. You can mail away merrily without inflicting any great damage on your finances.
2.There are no character limits on e-mail. Write as long a mail as you want.
3. You need not bother about sending MMSes. Just mail the video. And the same goes for images and just about any file you want to send. Sharing information becomes so much easier.
4. You do not need to keep worrying about saving mails, like you do about texts - your mails will be on the server anyway, and you can access them from the computer as well. So you can easily go back and check on a particular mail if need be.
5. Your e-mail contacts too will be backed up on the mail server, depending on your settings. No worries about transferring them to another phone when you switch phones.
Of course, for this to work perfectly, the person(s) to whom you send mails should have access to e-mail on their handsets or their computers, but this is more often the case than not these days. So the next time you think about sending a text, think of making it an e-mail!

Hi Ajay
First thing, how are you dirreferntiating between push mail and email..
Second, I with my friend have been using bulk sms service for many things. and one of the reasons for the same is becasue there are too many people who dont access email on phone.. there are just so many of them.
Why you recommend this is probably because there must be people in your circle who check emails on phone, but that might be only the intellectual community I would say. Correct me if I am wrong.
And people dont check because - there are people who dont get so many mails, so they dont bother, then some cant afford it, Some others are too much tech-unsavvy, and some others pure lazy..
So, though push mail is one great resource while there are a lot of people online, many times we need to use text only to reach a particular or wider segment of people.
Do let me know your thoughts on this.
Thanks
Nimesh

I believe Email is much better than SMS is because
“One can multicast and have a discussion like thread (I know there is chat in SMS too and SMS Channels - but this is much more convenient) - and as you said - free of cost.”

Hi Nimesh,
Well, the one reason why most people are not using mail on their phones is because they do not know just how good it can be. Many states have GPRS plans that allow for a lot of browsing on their handsets for about Rs 99 a month. And you can access mail now on just about any mid-segment, and even some lower-segment, handsets. That definitely makes it affordable. However, awareness is limited. And the reason for stressing push mail is that it has an almost text-like feeling, with mails being received and sent the same way one sends text.
