Journalists and Communications have always had a close relationship; with the recognition of Blogs as an important form of media in society, the time has come to connect news sources and these independent publishers too.
PR and Corporate Communications have had a close working relationship with traditional journalists and media companies for a long time now. However, the media landscape is undergoing a change with the emergence of blogging as a new and independent form of media.
Being early days, PR and Bloggers have not yet got a total handle on how to engage with one another. For instance, bloggers are in the need of news and information which may be different from the what a newspaper would seek, but not always. This means PR has to send releases drafted differently, and arrange interaction with people who may not be the spokespersons in the traditional sense. The CEO or Marketing Head may not satisfy the blogger as much as the Product Manager who is more hands-on and will speak with greater passion and authority than even those higher up in the organization.
And then bloggers are also a fragmented lot. They are independent, working on their own usually and not always reachable. But for PR, they are becoming an important touch point in their media planning.
The Blog News Room is an attempt to bring the two sides together in ways only Web 2.0 can. Both sides can register and start posting / receiving content automatically. There is no moderation - except for spam - and both sides are free to communicate with each other on this platform.
What kind of content may be posted? News, Press Releases, Columns by Leaders, Special Offers, Events, Press / Blog Conferences.
Who can post? Companies, NGOs, Individuals, Government and any other sector.
Topics to be covered: All possible topics of interest to bloggers including Tech, Sports, Travel, Entertainment, Books, Politics, Environment, Social Issues, Legal and more.
How does it work?
The Blog News Room is a service that enables anyone to communicate with the blogging community automatically. And it is quite simple for all concerned. This is how:
- For those who have news to share: They can post it on the site under the relevant category and it will show up on the site. Bloggers can come to the site to read it, or they may have taken an email or RSS feed to get these at the desired frequency.
- For Bloggers open to receiving updates: They can check out the site when they so desire for anything relevant they may like to use. These could be releases, invitations, news and more. Naturally there is no compulsion for them to use anything. They can even contact the people who have posted the news for further information and interaction.
The service is currently free. The time may have come for new media and blogging to take that next leap of faith. In everybody’s interests.
