Your camera enabled smartphone can mean one gadget less to fidget with – you can do away with the webcam if you decide to use WWIGO from Motvik. The product is certainly on the upswing, going by what Motvik’s co-founder M.Thiyagarajan had to say in an exclusive chat with TechGazing. What he has not shared are how they plan to generate revenues. Excerpts:
How would you describe your product?
WWIGO (pronounced ‘vigo’) is our flagship product and stands for ‘Webcam Where I Go’ and also describes the nature of the service. It is a software application residing both on the PC and the phone that transforms a cameraphone into a webcam for use with applications such as Skype and YouTube. Our target user is anyone with a smart camera phone but currently the product is available with Nokia phones only.
What kind of traction are you generating currently, and what do you see in the future?
Users are downloading it extensively across more than 125 countries. Number of users using the service is been fairly steady with an average of 500 downloads happening every day. We expect to see much greater usage in the future keeping in mind the rising Nokia sales.
Can you share any cases / anecdotes to highlight the use of your product?
Users have found many uses for it, and hundreds of blogs have written about it. They have used it with messengers like Skype and Yahoo for video messaging, or have captured video and edited on software like Windows Movie Maker, and have even used it for online video sharing applications like YouTube.
What are the challenges you are up against currently?
We have been able to reach thousands of users through word of mouth, but creating awareness amongst the many more who would like to use the product still remains a challenge.
What are you planning for the future?
We are working on bringing much richer features to be added to the product based on the feedback received from the users.
