Are mobiles the next big advertising medium?

The next buzz in town may well be about mobile phones as your medium to deliver advertising. This may mean another complexity to a media planner’s spreadsheets but, if it takes off, it could well address a lot of needs for advertisers.

These needs could include more reliable customer segmentation, lower cost-per-view, customised messages for different people, scheduling deliveries and more.

Action is hotting in this segment was obvious if one were witness at the fourth Mobile Monday Delhi chapter  meet in Gurgaon on August 18. A number of new companies were showcased their offerings, attracting perhaps the highest interest amingst those present.

These included AdMAD.mobi which allows users to sign on for receiving ads on their mobiles in exchange for credits with monetary value and SMSCountry whose 160by2 service allow anyone to send a free SMS from their website, length being limited to 80 characters. The remaining 80 characters of a standard 160 character long SMS is used for a sponsored ad message. Both these companies claim
