Brijj.com: The Desi, read Indian, LinkedIn?

I got an invite from Sanjeev Bikhchandani to join yet another social networking site. Just when I was about to press the usual abort, something caught the corner of my eye leading me to probe on.

Turned out the invite was from Brijj.com, a sort of a desi LinkedIn start-up. And the invitee was none other than Sanjeev of the Naukri.com fame. This seems to be his latest venture in a list that includes JeevanSathi.com, Quadrangle and 99acres.com.

The word Brijj comes from Brijjing (read Bridging) people,  or so it says below the logo. And what is this site about? “Its all about building and maintaining relationships. There are thousands of business contacts who can be found through people you know and trust. At Brijj we leverage the power of the internet to open these inside connections to you,” reads the About section of the site.

From the way its features sound, Brijj is not much different from LinkedIn. The main difference, of course, are the 13 million plus users the latter has. What will it take Brijj to get the numbers and, more importantly, the quality of the 150 country strong LinkedIn is still to be seen.

I am trying to pin down Sanjeev for an interview; should be done soon. Watch this space.
