Sony Ericsson’s P1i: The next smartie on the block?

Sony Ericsson may be raising the bar in the smart phone market with the P1i to be launched globally, including in India, in August 2007. This is one of the eight new models of phones being launched by the company in the coming quarter, announced by Sudhin Mathur, general manager for the company’s India operations at a press conference.
The enterprise customer could well be spoilt for the range of features on offer including: Backberry support, a GPS application, business card scanner, push email support and a three way text input via touchscreen keyboard, QWERTY keyboard and handwriting recognition. Some of the imaging and multimedia features include a 3.2 megapixel camera with a 3x digital zoom, video recording, bluetooth stereo, RSS feeds and picture blogging. The list of features just goes on.
Sounds great in theory, but the real test will be post-launch. The phone no doubt looks sleek and light, and if the features live up to their promise, the price tag of Rs. 25,000 might not be too steep.

I am not sure if Sony Ericcson phones are all that tough…always have my doubts…Anu
if all the features are what is mentioned here, and they are user friendly, it might be a cool deal at 25k.
The biggest issue in my problem is going to be the keypad which is a QWERTY hybrid. Sony Ericsson had used a similar keypad in one of their earlier phones but had come a cropper. Will hardcore QWERTY lovers like this keypad? I am not too sure. Otherwise, purely in terms of specifications and price, this is something that will make the Nokia e90 sweat!
